Langtang Valley Treks – Trip Overview

Langtang Valley Gosainkunda Trek combines the underrated Langtang Valley trek with the pilgrimage that is the Gosainkunda trek. This trek along the lap of the Himalayas offers spectacular views of the Langtang range, the final destination of Gosainkunda, a glacial lake holy to all Hindus.

The trip begins with a drive to Syabrubesi. Then the actual trek begins ascending through Lama Hotel, Langtang village, and Kyangjin Gompa. You will have to descend to Lama Hotel again and pass through Thulo Syabru Village. Now, the trek ascends through Sing Gompa, Gosainkunda Lake, Chandanbari and finally descends to Dhunche. From Dhunche, you will be driven to Kathmandu. So, the trek is much like a rollercoaster ride! The trail you take in this trek goes through lush sub-tropical forests, through the foothills of the Himalayas, and past drifting glaciers to the 108 lakes that compose the Gosainkunda. You will observe many rare and exotic species in their natural habitat including the Himalayan Pheasant, red panda, and many others. You will gaze upon the majesty of the Himalayas as they stand unmoving.

The region is home to the Tamang and Sherpa people. Here they live their lives with a unique culture that is a curious blend of Nepali and Tibetan influences. The highlight of the trip is the Gosainkunda lake, which is believed to be created by Lord Shiva, one of the major Gods of the Hindu religion. As such, its frigid waters are considered sacred and Hindu devotees take a plunge to wash their sins away. Temples and shrines to Lord Shiva are dotted along its bank and its serene atmosphere does indeed feel otherworldly.

The best months to trek there are March, April, May, September, October, November, and December. Trekking in Langtang requires TIMS (USD 20 for individual trekkers or USD 10 per person in a group) and Langtang National Park permit (USD 30 per person). This is a moderate grade trek that involves an ascent to gentle hills. It can be designed with a family in mind with per day walk of 5-6 hours. Altitude sickness does not occur due to low elevation.

At Himalayan Adventure Nepal, we believe in making the best of your stay during your trip. As you undertake this trek, our guides will be right beside you, working to ensure your safety and comfort. You do not need to busy yourself with matters of food, accommodation, and transport as our guides will take care of it all. All you need to do is relax and take in the majesty of mother nature. So, prepare yourself for a trekking experience like no other!
