Langtang Valley Ganja-La Pass Trek – Trip Overview

Langtang Valley Ganja La Pass, north of Kathmandu, offers a multitude of trekking destinations which is connected with main Himalayan range to the north Tibet Border and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south. This is golden opportunity to explore Tibetan villages, Tamang Villages, to climb small peaks and to visit glaciers at comfortably low elevations.  Your trek embark from the Kyanjin Gompa the gate way and the last Tibetan village which is connected with Helambu over Ganja La Pass (5,200 m). Langtang Valley Ganja La Pass offers wilderness and adventure experiences and it is not easy like other trek in Langtang. So you need more courage for adventure and require good equipment and experience from local guides. Himalayan Adventure Nepal will give you proper suggestion and direction regarding this trip.

Langtang Valley Ganja-La Pass Trek-Outline Itinerary:

Day 01 –Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m). Overnight at a Hotel.

Day 02 –Guided Sightseeing in the Kathmandu valley. Overnight at a Hotel.

Day 03 –Drive to Syabru Besi (1,462 m) on a Public Bus – 8 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse.

Day 04 –Trek to Lama Hotel (2,500 m) – 5 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse.

Day 05 –Trek to Langtang village (3,307 m) – 5 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse.

Day 06 –Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,798 m) – 4 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse.

Day 07 – Kyanjin Gompa Exploration Day. Overnight at a Guesthouse.

Day 08 –Trek to Ngegang (4,000 m) – 5 hours. Overnight at a Tented Camp.

Day 09 –Trek to Keldang (4,300 m) via Ganja La Pass (5,200 m ) – 6 hours. Overnight at a Tented Camp.

Day 10 –Trek to Dukpu (4,080 m) – 6.5 hours. Overnight at a a Tented Camp.

Day 11 –Trek to Tarkeghyang (2,560 m) – 5.5 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse.

Day 12 –Trek to Shermathang (2,621 m) – 5.5 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse.

Day 13 – Trek to Melamchi Pul Bazaar (846 m) – 5 hours. Overnight at a Guesthouse.

Day 14 –Drive from Melamchi Pul Bazaar to Kathmandu on a Public Bus – 4 hours . Overnight at a Hotel.

Day 15 – Leisure Day and Farewell Dinner in Kathmandu. Overnight at a Hotel.

Day 16 –Transfer to the International Airport for Your Final Departure.

Accommodations

We will be staying at 3 star hotels in Pokhara and Kathmandu and teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. And Single supplement will be served on request and will have additional cost. We will have rooms with attached washrooms in most parts of the trek but according to place it can be afforded. In higher elevations single rooms are not available like in Kathmandu and the lower elevation regions but Himalayan Adventure Nepal will do our best for your happiness.

Meals

All meals will be served during Ganja la Pass trekking, while Kathmandu and Pokhara only offer breakfast. The hotel will also offer welcome and farewell dinner. The most common dishes on most menus are Nepalese, Tibetan, Indian and the most common Continental.

Can I accomplish this trek?

Langtang Valley Ganja La Pass is challenging trip which is a moderate and suitable for those trekkers who can walk at least 6-7 hours a day with a light backpack. Crossing the pass requires the use of technical climbing equipment and trekkers must be skilled and be prepared. The trail follows a small valley before reaching the glaciated pass where the use of ropes, crampons and ice axes may be necessary. To accomplish this trek you need to have basic good health However, it is always best to start jogging and exercising regularly at least a month before commencing the actual trek. Best Time to Travel

Autumn (Sept. to Nov.) and spring (March to May) are the best seasons for this trek. If you have some other time than this we can customize and make the trip viable.

      Day 1
      Arrive in Kathmandu (1,400 m)
      Our airport representative will be receiving you at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu and s/he will be displaying  Himalayan Adventure Nepal signboard outside the airport terminal. You will be then transferred to your respective hotel in our private tourist vehicle. Overnight at a hotel. No meals included.
      Day 2
      Guided Sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley
      After a hearty breakfast, at 8.30 am your sightseeing trip will start. You will have a private vehicle and a professional tour guide at your disposal. Today we will visit some heritages listed below: Pashupatinath Temple: Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most significant Hindu temples of Lord Shiva in the world, located on the banks of the Bagmati River. Though you are not allowed to go inside the temple as it is strictly for Hindus only, you can clearly see the temple and the activities from the eastern bank of the Bagmati River. It is a square two-tiered pagoda temple built on a single-tier plinth which is famous all over the world. Boudhanath Stupa: Boudhananath is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Kathmandu. It was built in the 5th century with four pairs of eyes of Lord Buddha in four cardinal directions keeping an eternal watch over the people and their doings. You will find Buddhist pilgrims from Tibet going round the stupa spinning the prayer wheels. Bhaktapur Durbar Square: Visit the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the Royal Residential Quarter of Bhupatindra Malla, famous five-storied temple of Nyatapola in Pagoda style Batsala temple, Bhairavnath temple, Duttatraya temple, Pujari Muth and Palace of 55 windows. The rest of our time in Kathmandu is free for further exploration and some last-minute shopping in Thamel area for trekking essentials. Overnight at a hotel. Breakfast included.
      Day 3
      Drive to Syabru Besi (1,462 m) on a Public Bus - 8 hours
      Early in the morning, we drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi which takes about eight hours on a public bus. Driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi passing Dhunche, we’ll get a glimpse of Ganesh Himal after driving along the mighty Trishuli River. Terraced green hills and lush forests make the drive very pleasurable. Parts of the road though may be bumpy and under construction. Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
      Day 4
      Trek to Lama Hotel (2,500 m) - 5 hours
      The first part of the trail crosses through the Bhote Koshi River and follows the Langtang Khola. This trail gradually ascends up to Bamboo (1,960 m) passing rugged paths. Afterward, our trek climbs gently to Rimche (2,400 m). We can have lunch at this place and at the end of our trail is the Lama Hotel. En route we could see red pandas, monkeys and bears if we are lucky. Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
      Day5
      Trek to Langtang village (3,307 m) - 5 hours
      The trek route follows Gumanechok at Ghoda Tabela which literally means the Horse Stable. After this the trail climbs gradually to the beautiful valley with yaks about. Langtang is a typical village and one of the oldest along this trekking route. The views of the mountains are spectacular and become more imposing as we trek closer. Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
      Day 6
      Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,798 m) - 4 hours
      It is shorter walk today, but adequate for acclimatizing. There are some interesting things to explore, especially the famous cheese factory – don’t forget to try some locally produced cheese as fresh as it could get. This beautiful valley is on the lap of the Langtang Lirung. This is the spot where we can explore the valley and climbs several small peaks (hillocks). Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
      Day 7
      Kyanjin Gompa Exploration Day
      Today is a day to rest as we explore the area. You can visit the monastery and the cheese factory, walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri (4,350 m) which is the highest point of this trek, directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang peaks. Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
      Day8
      Trek to Ngegang (4,000 m) - 5 hours
      The trail goes on ascending and the area is covered with natural vegetation. No villages can be seen in this area, hence no lodges are available. Overnight at a tented camp. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
      Day 9
      Trek to Keldang (4,300 m) via Ganja La (5,200 m) - 6 hours
      Today is comparatively more strenuous as we have to cross the Ganja La Pass (5,200 m) covered with snowy ice in most months. Overnight at a tented camp. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
      Day 10
      Trek to Dukpu (4,080 m) - 6.5 hours
      A long day walking along the ridge and grassland, with amazing views of Himalayas. The camping site will be in the forest. Overnight at a tented camp. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
      Day 11
      Trek to Tarkeghyang (2,560 m) - 5.5 hours
      The trail descends slightly before climbing over a 4,100 m pass, from where the spectacular view of the Annapurna and the Everest regions can be clearly seen. From the pass the trail descends through the pine forest, rhododendron forest past a tiny herder settlement called Tarkeghyang. We can visit one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries and Sherpa villages in this region. We will be welcomed by cheerful and friendly people of this village. Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
      Day 12
      Trek to Shermathang (2,621 m) - 5.5 hours
      This day the trail is quite easy through the flat land with beautiful forests and small streams along the way. We’ll visit a beautiful village half way to Shermathang, another pretty Sherpa village where we can see many ancient monasteries and also the Jugal Himal range on the north face of the village. Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
      Day 13
      Trek to Melamchi Pul Bazaar (846 m) - 5 hours
      The trail gradually descends all the way to Melamchi Pul Bazaar through meadows and cultivated fields. Along the way, we come across several old villages with their own unique traditions. The walk today is quite pleasant with great mountain views. Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
      Day 14
      Drive from Melamchi Pul Bazaar to Kathmandu in a Public Bus - 4 hours
      After breakfast, we travel along a bumpy gravel path up to Lamidanda and then follow the metalled road up to Kathmandu. Overnight at a hotel. Breakfast included.
      Day 15
      Leisure Day and Farewell Dinner in Kathmandu
      If you are interested in extending the trip, there are many options such as Chitwan jungle safari, river rafting adventure, Kathmandu shopping tour, mountain biking and other activities. In the evening we will have a farewell dinner in a traditional Nepalese restaurant with cultural performances. Overnight at a hotel. Breakfast and farewell dinner included.
      Day 16
      Transfer to the International Airport for Your Final Flight Departure
      The trip concludes – our airport representative will drop you to Kathmandu’s Tribhuwan International Airport for your flight departure from Nepal. Breakfast included.
